The San Francisco Police Department is one of the most famous and admired police forces in the world. The SFPD has long set a standard of excellence for police training and performance. It is known for innovative programs, such as its SWAT (the first in the country) and its Police Academy. It provides police services to one of the most ethnically and geographically diverse cities in the nation.

The San Francisco Police Department, also known as the SFPD, is the police department of the City and County of San Francisco, California. The department's motto is the same as that of the city and county: Oro en paz, fierro en guerra, archaic Spanish for Gold in peace, iron in war. The SFPD should not be confused with the San Francisco Sheriff's Department, which is another law enforcement agency within San Francisco.
